Every morning I sit at my desk picking at the emails that have sprouted overnight. My desk faces the open door of the sales floor, leading to the stairwell. Reliably, the third person to come upstairs every day is Caleb Franklin, lead finisher turned welder. Caleb is putting away his lunch for the day- which almost always includes cheese and crackers, and he’s followed by his ‘Short Tailed African Cougar Hound’ Luther –my favorite shop dog.

Flanders……
De Ronde as it’s called in Belgium is this Sunday! The classics are upon us. It’s the time of year the super hardened riders come to the front. There is so much written about these races, I won’t pretend to know it all. What I do know is that those roads are narrow, the cobbles ruff and the climbs or “bergs” are leg busting steep. This photo was taken in January 2006 at the foot of the Koppenberg….if the racers are able to see at this point they will hit this sign area and make a more than 90 degree right turn and be at the foot of one of the nastiest climbs around. Barely a bike wide and at one point 22 degrees steep….ouch. While there I rode this thing 6 times…just to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. I would love to be there Saturday as they have an event for us mere mortals….citizens that take on most of the PRO route.
I haven’t watched any cycling on TV this year, but will most likely be doing so on Sunday!

A perfect day for a Classic. Cold, rain, windy and freeking hard course. Other than cross season this month is my favorite race month of the year.
I’m putting my money on Nick Nuyens.
The party has begun in the Grote Markt, according to the live webcam! This morning all theteam cars were parked there.
