State CX Championships….
Over the weekend the front range of Colorado received 4-6 inches of snow and the coldest temperatures of the season. Perfect for a Cyclocross race. Glen and Jon made the 350 mile round trip for the 60 minute men’s open race. The car thermometer read 15 degrees at the start of the race. Ouch! We brought enough clothes and warming cream for a small army. In the earlier races Moots bikes had a good showing with Michael Robson taking the win in the Cat 4 race and Dennis Ferrell taking the win in the Masters 35+ race. Both were aboard Moots Psychlo-X frames. Michael is the guy we have to thank for the beautiful pictures that grace our catalogue and our web site. Dennis is a long time racer and last year took 2nd at cross nationals....good work guys!
Glen and Jon lined up for the Open race with some of Colorado's fastest crossers. Low tire pressures and nerves of steel were the order of the day. 30 psi seemed to work pretty good on the snow packed/icy course. Both Glen and Jon had pretty good races Jon finishing 11th and Glen coming across 19th on the day. No damage to body or bikes. Now we only had 175 miles to get back home. Thankfully the trip home was non-eventful...with skilled rally driver Glen Light behind the wheel we made it back to Steamboat about 8:15pm. A long day for a short race....sometimes you gotta be a little nuts to do these things....
As for the photo above....this was drawn by Andie Mackie(Jon's cousin)....she got me into cross about 13 or 14 years ago...I have her to thank for my addiction to cross....I guess there could be worse things to do.....next stop Kansas City.

Ok, I’ll take a little credit for getting Jon into cyclocross but I can’t take the credit for drawing the cartoon identifying the traits of a cyclocross racer. That came out of a Velo News years ago!
The Psychlo-X Moots did well out here in Northern California this past weekend with a district win on Saturday and Bay Area Super Cup win on Sunday...both in the “Old Lady” category. Also wrapped up the series in 1st overall.
Next stop, Master’s Worlds in January!
Good Luck at Nationals!!
Andi (Jon’s cousin) Mackie
jon, are you going to sandbag at nationals and race in you age class, or run with the big boys??
Ouch, that hurts. Sandbag...yes, I’m racing in the 40-44 age class and doing the big boy race the next day. Due to my registration “problems” I’ll be starting in the scrum of it all. 160 plus riders...it’s gonna be nuts.
