“The Things the People Don’t see entry#1”
– Random semi-salty notes about the daily reality in Steamboat Springs.....by Glen L.
This is the first entry of hopefully many to illustrate that we don’t ski powder every day in the winter and then ride fancy bikes all day long during the summer while making loads of money.
“The commuter kicker” was just a creation out of boredom from all of the shoveling we’ve had in the last 6+ weeks. November was extremely dry in Steamboat, which was great for riding and staying fit for cross season, but winter is always coming, and we’ve more than made up for the lost snow at this point. The first people to work are in charge of shoveling before tire tracks and foot prints pack the snow into a mess, and this year it has been alternating between CNC/Machine workhorse Eric and myself. My typical winter day involves setting the alarm early (5:00am, 5:20am normally) if snow is in the forecast, because I have about 20-30 minutes of shoveling and snowplowing at home. We received more snow than forecasted overnight, and I hadn’t changed the alarm, which meant I was already behind. Turbo shovel/snow-blow session at home, then rally into work driving way too fast on snowy roads with no traffic (in my next life I will race rally cars) to be in at 6:15, shy of my 6:00 goal. Usually the big loader has already plowed the lot and left the sidewalks and wind-rows (berms left by the plows) to us, but surprisingly the plow guys took the day off, so the lot was 5 inches of untouched fluff. So, with plenty of snow to work with and the boredom of the shoveling routine, the “commuter kicker” was born, although the true kicker is the mound on the back-side of the building just begging for a tow-in… Anyways, it is now 7:00 am and I am finally beginning the work of Moots, with a solid 65 minutes of snow removal under my belt for the day. By the way, it is still snowing

That is awesome.
Makes me think of Napolean Dynomite and some quote about taking your bike of jumps.
That’s pretty cool!
Hey, speaking of powder. We’ll be in town the 24-26th. (also mentioned in the other thread) and we’re planning on stopping by. Unless there’s fresh powder of course, but I’m sure you understand. The questions is this.... Do you guys know of way to discount lift tickets to Steamboat? We have season passes to other Intrawest resorts, but none of them allow discounts to Steamboat. Any local knowledge will be greatly appreciated....
Velosprocket~
Discounts to Steamboat don’t really exsist. It’s a destination and they’ve got you once here. It’s pricey, but on the deep days is well worth the $$. Yesterday the report said 25’’ in 24 hours...today...9’’ on top of that...sick was the word used over the couple of days.
We look forward to meeting you…
safe travels.
